For the BPI Field tests, the candidate supplies the house. It can be a very familiar house, but it must have at least one atmospherically vented combustion appliance. Any written materials can be used for the field tests, but it is best to be organized and have a process established to meet the time constraints. It is advisable to go to the BPI website (www.bpi.org) and download the field test list for the certification you are seeking (click on BPIField for more information). If you are unsure of any of the areas in the test, you might want to consider some mentoring prior to the test. For each test you have 2 hours, and the tests can be taken simultaneously. Since Analyst and Envelope, for example, both require setting up the blower door and doing combustion safety, taking the two tests simultaneously allows for somewhat reduced time pressure.
