Most rectangular range hoods are not well designed. They're just a necessary evil. This range hood, however, effectively curves the exiting air to ease the resistance, and allow it to flow out smoothly. Thought went into the design of the water protection as well. And, surprisingly, birds like to flip open the dampers on hoods like this and nest inside the ducting. That is certainly not good for the air flow. The bird screen (and the backdraft damper) on this hood can be removed if the system is going to run continuously because anything in the way of the air flow will reduce it. The damper itself is tighter and better fitting than most.
