This ducting is flexible and designed for use in low to medium pressure ventilating, heating, and cooling systems. It is used in either supply or return sections: for branch ducts and branch connections. It is a highly efficient part of the total duct system because of the smooth liner, the thta offers minimal resistance to the air flow.
Insulated is not always required. Some building codes do require R8 insulated ducting for air conditioning applications, and any time you are moving warmed air through a cold space or chilled air through a hot space, the ducting should be insulated to limit energy loss. Also, if the duct is full of warm, humid air (such as exhaust from a bathroom) and it is moving through an uninsulated space that is likely to get cold, condensation is a definite problem for uninsulated ducting. Insulated ducting will also offer sound attenuation. But if you are simply blowing air out of a Comfort Stream to the outside, you might not need to use insulated ducting.
